A sun-drenched Greek citrus that stands out for its complexity and longevity
Citrus peel exposed to salty sea air and rough terrain
A moment of relaxation and unexpected depth
KORFU KUMQUAT takes its name and source material from the magnificent Greek island of Corfu
Kumquats multiply on the island of Corfu
The small and bitter, oval-shaped, orange-colored fruit first came to Greece from China in the 1800s
Today, these products, which are largely grown on the North coast, are turned into liquor and sugar and sold on the island where Prince Philip grew up
"You are in Corfu and you are amazed by the beauty, architecture and history of the island," says Robert Gerstner, co-founder of AEDES DE VENUSTAS
"Empress Elizabeth did not spend months there in vain
When it came time to imagine a citrus scent that matched their baroque style, Gerstner and Karl Bradl, founders of AEDES DE VENUSTAS, hired Greek perfumer Ilias Armenidis, who immediately thought of his homeland with its rich noble charm and natural beauty
Short for him: a mysterious citrus that carries the spirit of AEDES PERFUMERY
Nothing sweet or simple
Knowing that citrus scents tend to fade the fastest, he paired kumquat with Calabrian bergamot, an invigorating squeeze that signals the dawn of something new
The star of Earl Grey tea, the cedrat Calabrian bergamot, comes from the thick skin of the fruit
It brings a spiciness balanced by notes from mandarin, mandarin and orange blossom essence
Salty ambrox and mystical olibanum take us to the seaside landscape
Ginger, lavender, Granny Smith apple and rhubarb add a rounded fruitiness to the center
And Alaskan cedar, vetiver, captive musks and tonka, a tree species from the cypress family, unwittingly weave the dark background that holds the citrus cocktail together
Perfumer Ilias Armenidis describes "a unique and joyful feeling that creates a harmony very close to my heart, where kumquat from the island of Corfu is combined with Calabrian bergamot, and salty ambrox and mystical olibanum are there to remind us which part of the world we are traveling"
with our senses
CORFU KUMQUAT is a citrus expression that lasts much longer from the moment it was released
